Shoes

I ventured to the discount stores Burlington Coat Factory and Marshalls today because I heard everything was even more dirt cheap than usual.

Indeed it was and I picked these up:

I've been looking for some black gladiators for a while, but didn't want to spend too much on a pair. Patience pays off.

The gold platforms are rediculousss and I love them. They are incredibly comfortable and easy to walk in and I dig the cut out.

Treasure Hunting

Another state plate has been added to my collection! Okahoma!

The other three items, I intend to use as vases...The bowls are just begging me to stuff them with peony blossoms!

Geranium Table Cloth

Last night my husband and I cooked together and I got to put out the vintage geranium table cloth for the first time!

This is our little dining room table. My Mom found it at a flea market a few years ago and called me to see if she should buy it. She described it as a Three Little Bears table, which it sort of is. I recovered the chairs in bright red canvas.

Flavor of the Day and Nesting

I look like I'm getting beamed up. Sorry for the horrible quality photo...it was raining like CRAZY this morning when I left for work so I wore my old motorcycle boots, which do quite well for rain boots.

I'm going to include home nesting stuff from time to time, here's the first. This is an old shelf and an old desk in my newly made sitting room. I found the shelf at an antique store, along with most of the items on it. The antlers were found by my Dad at their house in Georgia.

My salt and pepper shaker collection is on this shelf...Bird shakers, Georgia shakers, antique silver shakers with cherries on them, antique (politically incorrect) Native American shakers, and creepy deer shakers.

The last time my Mom was in town for a visit, we went antiquing and found these tiny martini glasses with a starburst pattern. (I plan to serve homemade sorbet in them one day!)

I found the desk which is underneath the shelf at The Salvation Army and have only managed to paint it with primer. I plan to paint it shiney red very soon, but the last couple of days I've been debating painting it yellow or robin's egg blue instead...

My state plate collection is growing and I was happy to find a spot for these ones which don't have a built in string for hanging on the back...

Denim Vest Dilemma

I've had a fantastic vintage Lady Levi's denim vest hanging in my closet for a couple of months. The right things to wear it with haven't jumped out at me, so I've been doing a bit of brainstorming.

Here's what I've got:

Flowy neutrals and roughed up leather seem to be what I'm leaning toward. Perhaps some dainty florals thrown in?

I'm just afraid of coming off looking like Denim Dan in his "Texas Tuxedo", quite honestly. Or like some version of a 90's denim on denim disaster.

What do you guys think? What would you put with such an item?

Flavor of the Day

I wore this yesterday for a picnic with my husband by the water. I originally purchased this dress for a Debbie Harrie-esque disco look, but it works equally well for a look along these lines I think!

I've mentioned I've been crafting up a bunch of stuff and these peacock feather earrings and "C" necklace are a couple of them. I've really been up for a pair of peacock feather earrings forever, but have always been concerned about the way the birds are treated from wherever the feathers come from. I actually found a good source for cruelty free feathers on ebay (http://stores.ebay.com/The-Happy-Rooster) and have bought a few others for other projects! These earrings took 3 minutes to make and I really wish I'd done it sooner! My husband's name is Colin, hence the "C" charm, if you were wondering. I've got a big crush on him.

Colin: You look like Athena today.
Me: Do me, Zeus!

I know how to kill a sweet remark.

Fringe me!

Well, you may remember I posted here about my "genious" idea of making my own fringed shoes. Well, I got the shoes in the mail and they are just rediculous. Not only are they all wrong for the look I'd be going for, my foot falls out of them...Public nosedive into the sidewalk waiting to happen.

Never one to give up (to a fault), I've spotted these:

The fringe is different than I was originally picturing, but they're lovely and just what I was attempting myself as far as the actual shoe goes.

The trouble is, they're from Topshop and the exchange rate is balls. Also, if they didn't fit properly, returning them would be a pain.

P.S. These

came in the mail today and I. Love. Them. I can't believe I have to wait a few months to wear them, but I had to jump on them while they were on sale and still in my size!

Purple Haze

Purple has always been my least favorite color. It's just never jumped out at me and some of its shades, such as lavender and mauve, give me a downright sickly feeling.

Lately however, I've been drawn to the idea of pops of purple! I'm still no fan of the aforementioned hues, but electric purples seem unexpected and new!

I've not been able to locate the item I'm looking for yet, as my finds have all been slightly off in one way or another. For now, I'll have to make do with a florescent purple pedicure.

I'm dreaming of an electric purple studded number...What are the odds?

Flavor of the Day

I was super pre-occupied this day because of school and an interview, and really should have switched bags. Oh well.

Unlikely Source

I'm really diggin' cork print as a neutral lately, but all of the pairs I've seen have been way out of my budget.

I was browsing the Payless website for a suitable pair of shoes for a DIY project and came across these!

Oh, did I mention they're on sale for $12.99?

Flavor of the Day

This is an outfit I wore when my USB cord was still missing. It was a super hot day (I think it was the first day that hit 100 here) and I was working, so I went for cool comfort!

I just got this belt a couple of weeks ago from ebay and this was the first time I wore it. I wore it this way just hooked onto the buckle and the end hanging free(because I'm totally Ren-faire like that), but it is actually meant to be tucked in behind the buckle, which would make for a lovely neater look.

I've been beading a lot lately too (well, before finals stared anyway) and feel really nerdy but awesome being able to sport my new creations!

I didn't have time to brush my hair, so it ended up like this! I've been playing around with little braids and twists (again, because I'm totally Ren). My husband said I looked like Princess Leia circa 1850. He is so jealous.
